Howtodude.NET / Why not a wiki?Wikis or 'colaborative documents' are a cool and effective way of sharing knowlegde. However, howtos are fundamentally different from the information that is shared in wikis. Imagine how annoying it is when somebody changes the recipe you just wrote down! Wikis require that contributers share a certain amount of norms and values. The most successfull wiki, Wikipedia, is successfull because the wikipedians agree to principles as taking a neutral point of view. When people do not agree to such principles, 'edit wars' may take place in which people constantly revert a page between conflicting versions. While Wikipedia is about neutral knowlegde, a howto is never neutral by definition: all howtos have an aim as howtos describe how to accomplish something. For this reason, another way of archiving and sharing information is needed. Howtodude.NET allows everybody to write and archive his own howtos. And if you are looking for a way, you can compare various howtos and choose the one that fits best to your personal situation. |
